General Information
The University of Sharjah (UoS) is seeking applications and nominations for the position of the Director of the Registration Department. The Director’s role is to provide vision and leadership for a rewarding registration process, manage and maintain the integrity of students’ academic records, and render advice to the University senior administration on related matters. The Director is expected to institute technology to improve registration efficiencies and take responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of degree granting process. The Director will report to the Dean of Academic Support Services.
Founded in Sharjah in 1997, the UoS enrolls over 12,000 students in its 13 colleges at the main campus in Sharjah and an additional 1000 students in its four regional campuses. The UoS employs more than 1500 faculty, staff, and other employees. The main campus colleges include: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Sciences; Business Administration; Fine Arts; Engineering, Sharia and Islamic Studies; Law; Communication, Dentistry; Medicine; Health Sciences; Pharmacy; Community College; and Graduate Studies. The university offers more than 85 diploma, bachelor, master, and doctoral programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As the administrator responsible for the registration process and students’ academic records, the director of registration, in keeping with established best practices, will:
Lead the department in developing and achieving authentic strategic plan
Establish and enforce processes to deliver quality, efficient and thoughtful student-centered services
Oversee routine semester processes including course and exam scheduling, course registration, drop/add, withdrawals, transfer, grade submission, and reports generation
Mange the day-to-day operations of the registration department to assure accurate and secure records
Establish, maintain, and oversee the implementation of related policies and procedures
Maintain the integrity, confidentiality, security and accuracy of students’ academic records and control access and release of official student information
Manage degree certification and the issuance of diplomas, transcripts and outstanding academic achievement certificates
Supervise regularly scheduled updates of the university catalogs.
Provide accurate and timely reports, statistics and students lists to the academic units and to the units responsible for reporting externally
Plan and actively participate in creating and maintaining stimulating classroom conditions
Administer students’ evaluation of teaching and courses
Ensure compliance with academic, regulatory and accreditation policies and requirements
Establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with administrators of other campus units and with peers at other institutions.
Educational and Special Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess:
A master’s degree, but a doctorate is preferred.
At least 10 years of experience in registration and records keeping processes
Demonstrated knowledge of the Banner system and current related technologies
Ability to lead project teams and harness technology to provide quality services
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic
